A bit about me

I built the support that I wish existed for me

I came to Australia in 2015 as an international student. I know what it is to arrive somewhere new and work out the systems, the language and the unspoken rules largely on your own, often while holding a lot that no one around you can see.

That experience shaped the counsellor I have become. I am a PACFA registered counsellor with four years of clinical experience, and I currently lecture in a Master of Counselling program.

What working with me is like

Care that meets you where you are

My approach is culturally responsive and trauma-informed, and it is openly decolonised, anti-racist and social-justice informed. Every part of you is welcome here, and the space is LGBTIQA+SB affirming.

I draw on a range of approaches and choose them to fit you, rather than fitting you to a method.

Drawing on CBT, ACT, DBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, other modalities and motivational interviewing.

Counselling in English, Hindi and Gujarati.

Questions you might have

The things people often want to ask

Maanavta Wellness is not a crisis service. If you are in crisis or need urgent help, please call 000, or Lifeline on 13 11 14.

What can I expect from my first session?

Your first session is really just a conversation. There is no script and nothing you have to prepare. We talk about what brought you here, what you are hoping for, and how I work. You set the pace, and you only share what feels right on the day.

Can I claim Medicare or a rebate?

As a PACFA registered counsellor I am not able to offer Medicare rebates. The upside is that you do not need a GP referral or a Mental Health Care Plan to see me, so you can start whenever you are ready.

How is a counsellor different to a psychologist?

A psychologist and a counsellor both support your mental health, we just train and work a little differently. I focus on the relationship between us and on understanding you in the context of your culture, history and the world around you. If you ever need a psychologist or psychiatrist, I will help you find the right person.

Is what I share confidential?

Yes. What you share with me stays between us. There are a few limits I am required to explain up front, mainly if there is a serious risk to your safety or someone else's, or if records are subpoenaed by a court. I will always talk these through with you in plain language.

Do you offer Telehealth?

Yes. I offer Telehealth across Australia, so we can meet wherever you are. From July I also see clients in person in Perth on Saturdays.

Can I have counselling in a language other than English?

Yes. I offer counselling in English, Hindi and Gujarati, so you can speak in the language that feels most natural to you.

Taking the first step is hard. You do not have to do it alone

Reach out when you are ready. A booking enquiry or a free 30-minute consult is simply a conversation, with no pressure and no obligation.
