The things people often want to ask
Honest answers to the questions that come up most, so you know what to expect before you reach out.
Still wondering something?
If your question is not here, ask me in a booking enquiry or a free consult. No question is too small.
Maanavta Wellness is not a crisis service. If you are in crisis or need urgent help, please call 000, or Lifeline on 13 11 14.
What can I expect from my first session?
Your first session is really just a conversation. There is no script and nothing you have to prepare. We talk about what brought you here, what you are hoping for, and how I work. You set the pace, and you only share what feels right on the day.
Can I claim Medicare or a rebate?
As a PACFA registered counsellor I am not able to offer Medicare rebates. The upside is that you do not need a GP referral or a Mental Health Care Plan to see me, so you can start whenever you are ready. My fees have been set accordingly and are less than what a standard psychologist charges. You might also like to read how a counsellor is different to a psychologist.
How is a counsellor different to a psychologist?
A psychologist and a counsellor both support your mental health, we just train and work a little differently. I focus on the relationship between us and on understanding you in the context of your culture, history and the world around you. If you ever need a psychologist or psychiatrist, I will help you find the right person.
Is what I share confidential?
Yes. What you share with me stays between us. There are a few limits I am required to explain up front, mainly if there is a serious risk to your safety or someone else's, or if records are subpoenaed by a court. I will always talk these through with you in plain language.
Do you offer Telehealth?
Yes. I offer Telehealth across Australia, so we can meet wherever you are. From July I also see clients in person in Perth on Saturdays.
I am nervous about reaching out.
That is completely understandable, and you are not alone in feeling it. There is no pressure to commit to anything. The free 30-minute consult is a gentle way to meet me, ask questions, and see how it feels before you decide.
What if I am not ready to commit?
That is exactly the reason I offer a booking enquiry rather than book now. An enquiry or a free consult is simply a chat to see if we are a good fit for each other. You can take your time, and there is no obligation to continue.
Can I have counselling in a language other than English?
Yes. I offer counselling in English, Hindi and Gujarati, so you can speak in the language that feels most natural to you.
Taking the first step is hard. You do not have to do it alone
Reach out when you are ready. A booking enquiry or a free 30-minute consult is simply a conversation, with no pressure and no obligation.
